| Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and GabrielThe church initially served as a Muslim place of worship, that mean as a "mosque". But then, the mosque was turned into an Orthodox church, first temporarily, between 1808-1810, and finally by the initiative of Archduke Mikhail Pavlovich Romanov, head of the Russian army, after releasing Braila from the Ottomans. Hermitage Saint Nicholas - Giurgiu (str Mircea cel Batran no.38-40, in the harbour) In 1830 the mosque was turned into an Orthodox church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, after the name of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia.
